Natural stone (like Granite or Marble) is quarried directly from the earth, making every slab unique in pattern, color, and veining. Engineered stone (Quartz) is man-made, composed of roughly 90-95% ground natural quartz mixed with polymers and resins. This process provides greater color consistency and a non-porous surface.
Yes, most natural stone (especially Granite, Marble, and Quartzite) is porous and requires periodic sealing to protect against stains and moisture. We professionally seal your stone during installation. Depending on the stone and the sealer used, re-sealing is typically recommended every 1 to 5 years. Quartz does not require sealing.
The industry standard for kitchen countertops is 3 centimeters (approx. 1 ¼ inch). This thickness is durable, offers the best structural support, and requires no plywood sub-decking for support. A 2 centimeter (approx. ¾ inch) slab is typically used for bathroom vanity tops.
While granite is one of the hardest natural materials and is extremely scratch-resistant, we do not recommend cutting directly on it. The stone won’t be damaged, but it will quickly dull your knives. Always use a cutting board. Quartz is also durable but can chip on the edges if hit hard.
The total cost is based on several factors, including: the type and rarity of the stone, the square footage needed for your layout, the complexity of the fabrication (sink cutouts, edge profiles), and the installation requirements. We provide a full, detailed breakdown during our free quote process.
